Neptune 4 Max opinions please

Hey u/Schme1440 , Fellow Neptune 4 Max owner and prop maker here. Firstly, I 100% agree with u/golv74 - The main difference between the Pro and the Max are the build size and the Max has wi-fi and Wired LAN capabilities. Most of the rest of the features are similar so the learning curve in that respect is minimal. I've owned my 4 Max for 4 years and was the first printer I started one. I've made all my props, and have gotten such good results out of it simply because the build plate and print height is massive. If you are looking to build helmets, my greatest tip is to go slow with the printer and do all calibrations you can for your filament. When I first got into 3d printing, I didn't know what I was getting into and destroyed my first print head with a blob of death. That was 100% on me for rushing into printing without understanding that the default profiles don't work for every type of filament out there, you have to calibrate your settings with each brand and each different type. Here are example prints from the Neptune 4 Max that are tests - I generally print them at .2 layer height and do post processing and cleanup if I want to finalize them. I've 1500 hours on the Max and over 800 prints - she's a workhorse and if you're thinking of getting one, be sure you have a decent sized space and good table to put her on - she needs it! Best $500 3D Printer w/ the Least BS?

I saw it in person at Microcenter and was fascinated. How’s the print quality and reliability? My first printer was a Neptune 3 Pro so I’m no stranger to tinkering & tuning. That being said, I currently don’t have the time to spend countless hours tuning from absolute scratch. I have a Neptune 4 Max that was supposed to be my large scale “set & forget” machine after installing the cartographer, but I’ve had endless issues configuring it :-/ Unless Elegoo makes a Plus or Max version of the Centauri, the SV08 seems like the best large scale printer for the price

Ironing tests on Elegoo Neptune 4 Max (compared to Prusa MK3)

The Elegoo Neptune 4 Max offers a large build volume at an acceptable price and is significantly faster than the Prusa MK3, but its ironing function caused severe filament jamming and other issues, making it unreliable for this feature. While its ironing quality is acceptable, it's not as smooth as the Prusa.

What would you buy as a beginner

I started with an elegoo neptune 4 max. I now have a qidi q2. I would recommend a qidi q2 over a bambu. It's cheaper, has a heated chamber, higher bed and hot end max temp than those bambu's. Additionally you dont have any ip or security concerns, unlike with bambu because you aren't forced to send your prints through a cloud service.
