Purchase Advice Megathread - August 2026

if you have 50 dollars of wiggle room in your budget, and don't mind all the stipulations that surround owning a bambu printer, x2d is the play here for sure it'll be familiar to the h2d you've already used, and that heated chamber makes printing high temp filaments (for your functional parts) so much more reliable dual nozzle supports are also a game changer the x2d filament buffer being built in also means you can upgrade to an ams setup down the line very easily

X2D Alternative?

I have read that and it certainly is an appeal for me. "It just works" is a big selling point for me. For me part of the challenge is that I don't have a clearly defined use case - I want to say to students "Sure, we should be able to do that, let's give it a try" rather than "Sorry, if we only had xyz we could try but we don't". As to BL - I was very excited about the X2D before branching out to see other options. Things I've learned recently about limitations of their system do bother me. For example, I recently read that the print temps on x2d are limited software wise but can work fine with a hardware hack to fool the software. I wonder what is next since closed systems can make arbitrary choices like that. Will they then move toward subscriptions (want to print using xyz? buy our subscription) or whatever? IF that happened, does the 'it just works' start breaking down when not using their defined workflow with their supplies, software, cloud, etc?

The Bambu Lab X2D AMS 2 Pro Combo is Bambu's first serious dual-nozzle printer, allowing different materials in the same print, layered with multi-color through the AMS 2 Pro.

Talk sense into me please

The X2D is not bigger, it just has cool nozzles and 1 is worse than the other, and a few extra features but if you do a lot of two color prints or want to use support filament for easier removal of supports or cleaner support interfaces, then the X2D is worth it but yes the P1S is my go to over the P2S without a doubt it is not worth the extra money IMO. But I also wouldn't even get the AMS 2 pro i would just get the standard AMS combo with the P1S
