Super interested in 3D printing for my kids, but need guidance please

It's not a cheap hobby but you can get alot of your money back once you start printing stuff around the house instead of buying. For printers i think the Bambulab A1 mini is the best beginner friendly "bang for buck" printer out there at the moment. You can get by with any device(even just a phone) but if you want to start exploring you will need a windows device(idk if mac works). There is a program commonly known as a slicer that turns geometries into instructions for the printers, you will need to be able to operate that to slice your own files and change stuff, but it's pretty much setup for maximum acessibility, you will be fine. Oh and if we're talking young girls(dad of a 8yr old here, hi!) just do yourself a favor and get the "combo" with the multicolour kit, it costs alot more separately.

The Bambu A1 Mini Might Be My Favorite Printer!

The creator views the A1 Mini as a highly capable and efficient printer, especially when augmented with a plate cycler and AMS, enabling automated, continuous, and multi-color production with minimal waste.

Looking to start 3d printing.

My printer has a print are that is 220mm x 220mm and I frequently find models that won't quite fit. For this, you need a printer that can do multiple colors. The Anycubic Kobra X Combo is the cheapest option but still over your budget. Maybe see if you can find one of these, or a Bambu A1 with AMS, second hand? Edit: You could look at the A1 Mini also, but the small size is really limiting. My printer has a print are that is 220mm x 220mm and I frequently find models that won't quite fit but would work great if I had 256mm x 256mm. It is my biggest wish for when/if I can ever afford to upgrade. A resin printer is even better for small figures but they are horribly messy and just no fun to work with, IMO.

✅ TOP 5 BEST 3D Printers of 2026| Buyer's guide

Question/Opinion’s regarding smoothing of PLA Layer lines.

getting a good ABS print on an a1 mini is practically impossible. the bed only goes to 80 as others have said, and the internals don’t have cooling so putting it in an enclosure is really bad for it.
